Welcome to the Eureka Air Virtual Pilot Handbook

Thank you for taking the time to read this very important document!  It will help you better understand the operations, policies and procedures of Eureka Air Virtual.

Welcome to Eureka Air Virtual.

We are a different type of virtual airline, that bases its operations on the principles of a real airline.  We will not just start flying large aircraft on long-range flights all at once, we will slowly expand!  We are starting our operations with five (5) CRJ-700 aircraft leased from Alaska Virtual Air Group, with six (6) destinations within the state of California and Nevada.  As time goes by and the airline turns a profit (or doesn't) we will expand or "shrink."  Only time will tell.  But I doubt we'll go out of business ; )

Eureka Air Virtual Operations:

Section 1 - Pilot Ranking System

Currently, as a start up airline, we only operate one (1) aircraft type (CRJ-700) so we do not have ranks.  But as the airline grows, we will have different aircraft types, and therefore will have a ranking system.

     Section 2 - Aircraft Fleet

As mentioned several times before, we are a start up virtual airline and only operate one type of aircraft.  This type of aircraft is the Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft.  In our fleet, there are five (5) of these aircraft.  This aircraft is a very sturdy and reliable twinjet and is perfect for our route structure and operations.  Each aircraft is fitted with seventy (70) orange leather seats at thirty-one (31) inch seat pitch.

Section 3 - Routes and Route Structure

The Eureka Air Virtual Airlines route structure is of the hub-and-spoke model.  Which means most of our flights depart or land at one airport (Arcata / KACV -- the hub).  Also, a large portion of our flights also depart or land at another airport (Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena / KBUR -- the spoke).  Currently this is the only route structure that makes sense for our operations, although one day we hope to introduce a point-to-point model.  To view our route map, click here.

     Section 4 - Flight Requirments

At Eureka Air Virtual we do require you to complete your first flight within ten (10) days after your application is accepted.  Also after that, we expect that one (1) flight is completed and filed ever twenty (20) or so days to keep you active and our virtual airline going/growing!

     Section 5 - Submitting PiReps

Currently, in order to submit a PiRep, you must start a topic in the forum under "File PiRep":
  • Departure Airport and Arrival Airport (i.e. KACV for Arcata and KBUR for Burbank)
  • Departure Time and Arrival Time (in local time format, not ZULU or 24-hour)
  • Flying Time (in HH:MM format)
  • Fuel Load (in pounds)
  • Weather Information
  • Other comments pertaining to the flight itself
     Section 6 - Flying Guidelines

When flying, you must follow several simple guidlines:
  • Do not fly above 22,000 feet (fly between 11,000 and 15,000 feet on shorter flights).
  • Do not exceed 250 knots when below 10,000 feet.
  • Do not exceed the maximum speed of the aircraft.
  • Do not exceed the appropriate cruise speed for the flight level (FL) you are cruising at.
FreeChecklists.net is a great website that has a lot of checklists for flight simulator. Download the CRJ-700 checklist (it's for FSX but will work with FS2004 as well).  This will help you immensely with the operation of our aircraft.

You must also not load an excessive amount of fuel on the aircraft.  NONE of Eureka Air Virtual's flights require a 100% or even 90% fuel load.  We do not require elaborate calculations, but we do ask that you try to load a logical amount of fuel.

Section 7 - Home Base Transfers

In order to qualify for a Home Base Transfer, you must have been at your current home base for a minimum of forty (40) days.  To request a transfer, send us and e-mail.
